Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Evaluation: PG-13

Release date: In theaters nationwide Friday, November 11, 2022.

Summary: In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the nation is in mourning after the death of King T’Challa. Queen Ramonda must guide her country to continue striving to maintain their way of life and defend it from all enemies, even without their beloved leader.

To monitor : This might have been the last film the late Chadwick Boseman would star as T’Challa as his contract would have ended after that film. We’ll never know what Marvel has planned to do with the Black Panther movie series and character.

word on the street: A large part of the film takes place under water, the actors having to take swimming and apnea lessons.

My take: I love that the film’s production designer, Hannah Beachler, cited legendary comic book artist Jack Kirby as one of the influences on the film’s look.

Fiery (2022)

Evaluation: PG-13

Release date: In theaters Friday, November 11, 2022 and on Apple TV+ Friday, November 18, 2022.

Summary: Fiery is a modern musical retelling of Dickens’ legendary Christmas story, with a miserable, miserly man (Ryan Reynolds) visited on Christmas Eve by three ghosts to show his past, present and future.

To monitor : The cast includes Will Ferrell, Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Tracy Morgan and Rose Byrne.

word on the street: Director Sean Anders is known for Instant Family (2018) and daddy’s house 2 (2017).

My take: I understand that the lead actors worked with the songwriters to tailor the songs to their musical and comedic talents.

Sam and Kate (2022)

Evaluation:R

Release date: In select theaters Friday, November 11, 2022.

Summary: Sam and Kate is about Sam (Jake Hoffman), who has returned to his small hometown to care for his ailing but larger-than-life father, Bill (Dustin Hoffman). At home, Sam falls in love with a local woman named Kate (Schuyler Fisk). Just when things seem to be going well, Bill starts dating Kate’s mother, Tina (Sissy Spacek), and things will never be the same.

To monitor : Sissy Spacek is Schuyler Fisk’s real mother. And Jake is Dustin Hoffman’s real son.

word on the street: Filmmaker Darren Le Gallo is making his feature directorial debut.

my catch: I love the fact that Henry Thomas is also in the film. Thomas played Sissy’s son in his feature debut, The man in rags (nineteen eighty one).

Falling for Christmas (2022)

Evaluation: N / A

Release date: Premiering on Netflix Thursday, November 10, 2022.

She finds herself in the care of a handsome owner (Chord Overstreet) of a small ski lodge and his daughter. Love might catch our heiress, but what happens when she regains her memory?

To monitor : Lindsey Lohan covers “Jingle Bell Rock” in the film. Lohan previously performed the song in the legendary movie mean girls (2004).

Word on the treet: It’s the first feature Lindsey Lohan has made in three years.

my catch: Unlike many Christmas-themed movies, which are usually shot in the summer, this one was shot in the month of December 2021.

Bar fight

Bar fight! (2022)

Evaluation: N / A

So they do what is expected, hold a contest to see who gets custody of the waterhole they both love. It will be a battle for the ages!

To monitor: This is the first feature film by Jim Mahoney, best known for his portrayal of the character named Brosk in the television series The Orville.

word on the street: Mahoney is also a writer. And his screenplay for the 2019 film Klaus was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2020 Oscars.

my catch: One of my favorite actresses, Rachel Bloom (Crazy ex-girlfriend), plays Nina’s best friend in the film.

The game of friendship

The Friendship Game (2022)

Evaluation: N / A

Release date: In select theaters Friday, November 11, 2022.

Summary: The game of friendship tells the story of four friends who buy an object at a garage sale and are told that it is a “friendship game”. The four try the game and soon discover that not only will their friendship be threatened, but also their lives.

To monitor: The film was originally cast with Bella Thorne in the lead. But Peyton List replaced her before filming began.

Word on the treet: Besides Peyton List, the cast includes Brendan Meyer, Kelcey Mawema and Kaitlyn Santa Juana.

my catch: Hey, Halloween was just a few weeks ago, so we’re all still in the mood for another horror movie.
