Annaatthe in Sooryavanshi, new movies coming out this weekend

This year, Diwali is very sweet for film professionals, as it also marked the first major weekend at the box office in almost two years. With the government of Maharashtra finally allowing cinemas to reopen after the second wave of Covid-19, Bollywood’s first big-budget film hits theaters this Friday. In the southern market, Diwali coincides with Rajinikanth’s first release in two years – Annaatthe. From Hollywood, we also have Marvel’s Eternals this week. Here’s a rundown of this week’s top releases that you absolutely should check out.
1. Annaatthe
The Tamil action drama film is written and directed by Siva and produced by Kalanithi Maran. The film stars Rajinikanth, Meena, Khushbu, Nayanthara, and Keerthy Suresh, while Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, Vela Ramamoorthy, and Soori play prominent supporting roles. It revolves around the brother-sister relationship of Kaalaiyan, a village president, and his brother. Principal photography for the film began in December 2019 and ended in September 2021. The filming process took a year and a half, due to the lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic in India and Rajinikanth’s health concerns late December 2020, delayed production of the film.
2. Sooryavanshi
The fourth installment of Shetty’s Cop Universe stars Akshay Kumar as DCP Counterterrorism Team Leader Veer Sooryavanshi alongside Katrina Kaif, with Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Niharica Raizada, Vivan Bhatena, Sikandar Kher, Nikitin Dheer and Jaaved Jaaferi. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in extended cameo appearances reprise their roles as Singham and Simmba from previous films in the franchise. Initially scheduled for a March 2020 release, the film had to wait until November 5, 2021 to finally reach its audience. There are significant expectations for the film in terms of box office revenue.
3. Eternals
The 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an all-new adventure featuring 10 never-before-seen superheroes on screen. It is released on November 5 in 6 languages - English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Eternals follows a group of heroes from beyond the stars who have protected Earth since the dawn of man. When monstrous creatures called Deviants, long considered lost in history, mysteriously return, the Eternals are forced to come together to defend humanity once again. Eternals stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee with Kit Harington, starring Salma Hayek and Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. The film is produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, and directed by Chloé Zhao. Indian actor Harish Patel also plays a role in the film.
4. Meenakshi Sundareshwar
Directed by Vivek Soni and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, Meenakshi Sundareshwar stars Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani in the lead roles. The film sums up the various interrelated aspects of relationships, shared families, the awkwardness of a new marriage and everything in between. When the challenge of a long distance relationship is given to this young couple, the question arises: will the distance really make their hearts more loving? The film is a beautiful and relevant portrayal of newlywed couples, long distance relationships, career choices, and the many other challenges that come along along the way. It will be released on November 5, 2021 only on Netflix.
