It’s the weekend and if you’re sitting down to watch something new on Netflix, here are our top picks for the week. We’ve picked out the best new movies and series to watch on Netflix right now.
Usually we split our top recaps of the week into two articles, but this week we’re going to combine the two as we’ve been working on more in-depth articles on what to watch coming up next week.
We will therefore choose three new series, three new films and a title that will be released in the next 7 days.

Missing link (2019)

Squeezed onto Netflix last weekend, the excellent, highly underrated animated film, Missing link is now streaming on Netflix US (other regions will vary).
The Oscar-nominated animated film is about a Yeti agreeing to let an unlucky hunter prove he exists to the outside world.
Certified fresh on RottenTomatoes, Cinemayward said the film was a “delightful underrated adventure”, adding that it “takes a conventional adventure story and infuses it with a progressive ethos”.
The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022)
Director: Jeff Wadlow
Cast: Marlon Wayans, Priah Ferguson, Kelly Rowland, John Michael Higgins, Lauren Lapkus, Rob Riggle
Next hubie halloween No, this Halloween family comedy is one of many new movies Netflix has added for the spooky season.
With stranger things‘ Priah Furguson, the film sees Halloween decorations come to life after a spirit is unleashed on a small town.
Reviews, it should be noted, have been generally awful for the film thus far. It currently only holds a 36 on Metacritic, with most critics saying the plot itself struggles to engage. The Los Angeles Times said the film never went from a “slightly enjoyable time killer” to “entertaining”.

Director: Sam Macaroni
Cast: Abbie Cornish, Josh Duhamel, Nick Nolte
Josh Duhamel’s action flick which made its SVOD debut on Netflix on Wednesday topped the top 10 charts this week. Blackout.

Best New Series on Netflix This Week
The Observer (Limited series)
Cast: Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge, Mia Farrow, Noma Dumezweni, Joe Mantello
We’ve had a trio of Ryan Murphy projects on Netflix over the past few weeks, with DAHMER being not only Murphy’s biggest projects for Netflix, but one of the biggest in Netflix history.
This new limited series takes on a slightly different tone but is spooky enough to warrant putting it on your Halloween binge list.
Based on a true story, you’ll follow a couple who move into their dream home, only to turn into a waking nightmare with a stalker sending them gruesome letters.
Absent: The Other Side (Season 1)
Gender: Drama, Fantasy, Mystery
Cast: Come on Soo, Joon-ho Huh, Sohee
Duration: 70mins / 1h 10m
Fans of Korean content were treated to a few tracks this week, and the one that stood out to us was the 12 episodes of the fantasy thriller, Missing: The Other Side.
Here’s what you can expect if you dive:
“A con man encounters a supernatural village where the spirits of missing people are blocked until the mystery behind their disappearance is solved.”
The film received strong reviews from local media when it aired two years ago and holds a 7.7 on IMDb.

hemlock grove (Seasons 1-3)
Leaving Netflix: October 24
Usually we pick a starter movie in this slot, but since you have less than a week left, we thought we’d give you a thumbs up to watch Hemlock Grove if you haven’t already.
The first Netflix Original title will leave after years of exclusivity as Netflix chooses not to renew the series to stay on the service.
The first season, in particular, is very good, so if the series is on your list, we suggest you hurry!
