The director of the Dallas Buyers Club and Big Little Lies, Jean-Marc Vallée, has died at the age of 58, outside of Quebec City, Canada.

Jean-Marc Vallée, Canadian filmmaker, writer, director and producer, known for such works as The Dallas Buyers Club and Big Little Lies, has died at the age of 58. According to a report from Deadline, Vallée died suddenly in his cabin outside of Quebec City, Canada. Vallée has won Emmy Awards and a DGA Award for Big Little Lies, and was nominated for an Oscar for achieving the Dallas Buyers Club. The film won Oscars for Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto.
DEATH OF JEAN-MARC VALLEE AT 58
Canadian filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée breathed his last in Quebec City, Canada. He was 58 years old. The cause of his death was not immediately known. In a statement, his production partner Nathan Ross said, “Jean-Marc was all about creativity, authenticity and trying things differently. He was a true artist and a generous, loving guy. Everyone who worked with him couldn’t help but see the talent and vision he possessed. He was a friend, a creative partner and an older brother to me. The Maestro will be sorely missed, but it’s heartwarming to know that his magnificent style and hard-hitting work that he shared with the world will live on. “
Vallée was scheduled to direct a series for HBO, titled Gorilla and the Bird, about a public defender who suffers from a sudden psychotic attack. This was based on a memoir by Zack McDermott.
Vallée is survived by her two children and three siblings.
