CHICAGO (WLS) — “Bros” is a romantic comedy about two men trying to fall in love.

It opens on Thursday evening. Billy Eichner wrote the story and starred in the film with Luke Macfarlane. ABC7’s Hosea Sanders talked to them about innovating with the film.

“Bros” tells the story of Bobby and Aaron trying to become a couple, but the courtship is chaotic.

“The entire cast of the film is openly LGBTQ, even in the straight roles, which you really never see,” Eichner said. “I’ve been an openly gay actor my whole life, my whole career. There are certain challenges that come with that. Sometimes you get shut out of mainstream comedies like this, or mainstream projects in general. So, I wanted to use whatever power I had in this scenario to uplift other people in the community with me and give them the opportunity to shine too.”

It’s the first time a major studio has backed a film with this kind of plot, with inclusive talent on camera and behind the scenes.

“Certainly in the years leading up to ‘Bros’, all the criticism was thrown at me and all these fears came over me about being gay in Hollywood and what you can and can’t do.” Bros “is my answer to all of that, really,” Eichner said.

Macfarlane, who plays “Aaron,” also weighed in.

“All my life I’ve been to watch two straight guys fall in love and figure it out, and I got a lot out of it, and I cried and laughed. So I think straight guys can do the exact same thing, watch a gay couple fall in love. They may cry and laugh. But I think it’s going to be the start of others,” Macfarlane said.

Eichner graduated from Northwestern University and showed the film to his most inspiring teacher, Mary Poole.

“It was very emotional. We both cried. She loved the movie and she said, ‘You’re such a good actor in this movie.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, because of you,'” Eichner said.

Eichner also spoke about how his studies at Northwestern University and his presence in the Chicago area shaped the artist he is.

“It was truly a formative experience. It was truly one of the best experiences of my life. I love Chicago because of it,” Eichner said.

don’t worry honey

This upcoming movie has been trending lately! The behind the scenes drama involving director Olivia Wilde and lead actor Harry Styles brought media attention to the film. Initially, the lead role of Jack Chambers was to be played by Shia Lebouf. However, he left the production early on, supposedly after being fired due to “fighting energy», and was replaced by Styles. Following the film’s recent premiere in Venice, it emerged that Lebouf had in fact left the production due to a lack of rehearsal time. However, it’s not just all the behind-the-scenes drama that makes this film interesting. Wilde’s second directing effort is a psychological thriller set in a 1950s-inspired utopia, and we’re so excited to see it!

don’t worry darling will be released in theaters on September 23, 2022.

Disillusioned

A nostalgic piece that transports you back to your childhood, this movie is definitely for the generation that grew up watching old Disney movies. Reprising their roles, Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey once again play the naïve princess and the charming lawyer, but in flash ten years after the first film. Seeking a fairy tale life outside of New York, Giselle, Robert and Morgan move to Monroeville, but after Giselle wishes for the perfect life, magic is unleashed and they must find a way to save everyone. . This film includes the fantasy and fairy tale elements we know from our childhood movies, but also brings in deeper themes and questions the meaning of a fairy tale life and happily ever after.

Disillusioned will be released in theaters on November 24, 2022.

black panther: wakanda forever

As the most recent Marvel movies have been disappointing, to say the least, I’m skeptical of how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will turn out. However, because the Black Panther sequel will have the same talented director, Ryan Coogler, there’s still hope. This film touches the hearts of Marvel fans quite a bit as it deals with Chadwick Bosman’s on-screen death and how to preserve his memory. Many fans are anticipating how Coogler will come to terms with Chadwick Boseman’s absence following his tragic passing. Nonetheless, viewers are excited to see how the film will portray old characters and introduce new ones, such as Iron Heart from the comics.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released in theaters on November 11, 2022.

blond

Based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Andrew Dominik’s Blond focuses on the life of Marilyn Monroe, highlighting her rise to stardom and the hardships that followed. Blond delves into the darkest and most insincere moments of Monroe’s life and reveals the discrepancies between her pure bliss lifestyle that she constantly portrayed and her true self as Norma Jeane. This film is meant to portray how she struggled both in the spotlight and behind the scenes. Many people are tired of the film’s NC-17 rating because of its sexually violent scenes, and it’s a rare rating, even by Netflix standards. Anyway, the film received a fourteen minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, the current record for this festival. Blondes The casting is also attracting attention, with talk of Ana De Armas receiving an Oscar for her portrayal of Monroe.

Blond will be released in theaters on September 16, 2022 and will be available to stream on Netflix on September 28, 2022.

the woman king

The female king is a historical drama featuring actors such as Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch and Thuso Mbedu. This film follows the all-female warrior tribe, the Agojie, through their training by Davis’ character, Nanisca. The film is inspired by real events but isn’t entirely factual, so for history buffs, this one probably isn’t for you. There has been an increase in the number of films with all the POC actors, such as boobies rich asian in 2018 and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever coming out later this fall, and The female king follows this current pursuit in Hollywood for more diversity in filmmaking.

The female king will be released in theaters on September 16, 2022.
