Court suspends publication of The Kashmir Files by Vivek Agnihotri

A district court has ordered the suspension of Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Kashmir Files, which was scheduled for release on March 11. The decision was made after the wife of martyr squadron leader Ravi Khanna lodged a complaint.

The Kashmir Files was due out on March 11.

Shalini Khanna, wife of Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna, had attended the premiere special of The Kashmir Files on March 4. However, after watching the film, she claimed that one of the scenes featuring her husband was misrepresented in the film. She further stated that she raised an objection shortly after the premiere while speaking on stage, but the creators did not pay attention. In fact, there was no feedback from them as to whether they would remove the scene from the film, and as a result, it had to go legal tender.

The order issued by the court reads as follows: “Prosecution for mandatory injunction ordering the defendants to immediately remove and remove the scene and the incorrect facts displayed/shown vis-à-vis the plaintiff’s husband, namely the head of Martyr Squadron Ravi Khanna, in the film and trailer for the film The Kashmir Files, scheduled for release on March 11, 2022, which is absolutely and entirely unrelated and not identical to the actual events that occurred as mentioned in prosecution by plaintiff;or alternately to alter/modify the scene and inaccurate facts vis-a-vis plaintiff’s husband namely Martyr Squadron Leader Sh. Ravi Khanna in The Kashmir Files movie according to true and correct true, occurred on January 25, 1990, when the complainant’s husband was martyred.

It further states, “Lawsuit for permanent restraining order restraining the defendants from releasing The Kashmir Files film until the aforesaid removal, deletion or alteration of the scene and incorrect facts displayed vis-à-vis the husband of the plaintiff in the film and trailer, contrary to the real and true facts recounted by the plaintiff in the lawsuit and otherwise also, such other relief as the Honorable Court deems appropriate and necessary.
