MANJU SINGH PASSES AWAY

Actress and producer Manju Singh died on April 15. She was famous for playing Ratna, Amol Palekar’s sister, in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1979 film Gol Maal. During her lifetime, Manju Singh had anchored and produced DD shows like Show Time, Ek Kahani, Adhikaar and Swaraj. His family published an obituary with details of the funeral in a Mumbai newspaper. She died of cardiac arrest at the age of 73.

Lyricist-screenwriter Swanand Kirkire, whose writing career kicked off after working with Manju Singh on Doordarshan’s Swaraj, took to Twitter and offered his condolences over the actress’ passing. His tweet translated from Hindi can be read: “Manju Singh is no more. Manju ji brought me from Delhi to Mumbai to write his show “Swaraj” for Doordarshan. She has done many wonderful shows ‘Ek Kahani’, ‘Show Time’ etc for DD. Golmaal Ki Ratna Hamari Pyaari Manju ji by Hrishikesh Mukherjee how can you forget your love. Goodbye (sic).

Manju Singh is survived by two daughters and a son.
