Directed by Jagdish A Sharma and produced by Kamaal R Khan, Deshdrohi was released in 2008. The film starred KRK in the lead role alongside Manoj Tiwari, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Gracy Singh and Zulfi Syed. The film revolves around the hardships faced by immigrants in Mumbai, where rural exodus has displaced the Marathis, who now make up less than 50% of the city’s population. More than the script, the movie was known for KRK’s bad acting. Scenes from the film are still used to troll the actor.
Deshdrohi was released on November 14, 2008 in all of India except Maharashtra, where it was banned by the state government under the Bombay Cinema Regulation Act. The film’s producers had petitioned the Bombay High Court to lift the ban. After a two-month ban, the film was released on January 23, 2009 in Maharashtra.
