Newbie director PS Vinothraj’s Koozhangal (Pebbles) is India’s official entry into the 2022 Oscars. The film was produced and presented by Rowdy Pictures banner of Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan. Producer Vignesh Shivan took to social media to share the good news with everyone. Koozhangal won the prestigious Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival this year.

KOOZHANGAL GOES TO OSCARS 2022

In February 2021, Koozhangal was screened at the 50th Rotterdam International Film Festival which took place in the Netherlands. The film received the prestigious Tiger Award at the film festival. The realistic drama stars Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan in the lead roles.

Vignesh Shivan took to Twitter to share the Koozhangal poster and broke the news. He wrote: “There is a chance to hear that!” And the Oscars go to “Steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives. #Pebbles #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisisysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures I cannot be prouder, happier & content (sic). “

Koozhangal explores the relationship between a father, who is a drunkard, and his son. His wife returns to her parents because of her abusive husband. How the father-son duo regains the woman’s trust is the remainder of the story.

14 films were shortlisted for India’s official entry this year at the 2022 Oscars. Among the 14 films were the Malayalam film Nayattu, the Tamil film Mandela and the Hindi film Sardar Udham. Shaji N Karun, the chairman of the 15-member selection committee watched all 14 films in Kolkata. Apparently, the decision to select Koozhangal for the 2022 Oscars was unanimous.
