The coolest movies to watch of October 2021


Netflix fans, you better be ready for the biggest thrills of your life. The streamer is stepping up the Halloween spirit this month, phasing out some titles next month to feature some deliciously spooky October lineup. Whether you’re someone who keeps all the lights on or just want to watch those horrific movies in pitch black, Netflix has exactly the right movies to set the mood for Halloween.

This month, Netflix kicks off with Jake Gyllenhaal’s exciting new collaboration with Antoine Fuqua, the guilty. The film follows Gyllenhaal as the 911 operator trying to save the day, focusing on the iconic actor’s captivating performance. Also on October 1, streamer adds David Fincher mystery Zodiac and cheesy comedy Half brothers. Even if you want to avoid horrors and thrillers this October, Netflix has you covered. And we’re just getting started!

Towards the middle of the month, Netflix launches a horror that is sure to blow your mind. There is someone in your house follows a teenage girl who moves to live with her grandmother in a small town in the Midwest, and the lifestyle change is downright fatal. You’ll be in the spirit of Halloween in no time. After that, another exciting Netflix movie comes out on October 20, when Night teeth, the bloodthirsty thriller starring Debby Allen, premieres on the streamer. These are exactly the types of movies that end up landing in Netflix’s Top 10.

To wrap up the month, Netflix adds a follow-up film to Zack Snyder’s hit zombie flick Army of the dead. Army of thieves will be a prequel to Snyder’s film, following a mysterious woman who hires a bank teller to help her break safes across Europe. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a tense 911 operator in the guilty, which follows his quest to locate a missing person after receiving a horrific call. Focusing mainly on his character as he tries to save the day, the guilty is an exciting character study on one of the most important professions out there.

Have a little fun with Hair spray this month of October! The star-studded musical was released in 2007 and is still an absolute blast. With stars like Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes and, yes, John Travolta as Mrs. Edna Turnblad, Hair spray is a terrific adaptation of the classic fun of the 1960s. In the film, unlikely dancer Tina Turnblad auditions for a spot on her favorite TV show – and, unexpectedly, she lands the part. If she is to keep it, however, she will have to leave a lasting impression.
