“The Emoji Movie” is the grand winner of the 38th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards, taking the worst photo of 2017.
Sony’s animated comedy dominated “Baywatch”, “Fifty Shades Darker”, “The Mummy” and “Transformers: The Last Knight”. The fifth “Transformers” movie, titled “Transformers XVII: The Last Knight” in the ad, led the pack with seven nominations when it was announced on January 22.
“Topping this year’s list of movie duds is the emoticon-based talking poo opus,” the Razzies said.
The annual awards were announced on Saturday in their traditional time slot, the day before the Oscars. “The Emoji Movie” won four of 10 Razzies, also winning Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, and Worst Screen Combo, awarded to “two obnoxious emojis” from the film.
Tom Cruise won the Worst Actor award for his reboot of “The Mummy” and Tyler Perry won Worst Actress for “Boo 2! A Madea’s Halloween.
Kim Basinger won the Worst Supporting Actress award for “Fifty Shades Darker” – 21 years after winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for “LA Confidential”.
Mel Gibson won the Worst Supporting Actor award for “Daddy’s Home 2”. Gibson received the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture for “Braveheart” of 1995.
“Baywatch” won the first special prize for Rotten Tomatoes: The Razzie nominee so badly you liked it! The award is the result of an online survey with the Rotten Tomatoes.
The Razzies organization made the announcement with a video titled “Who Said Recycled Materials Are Good For You?”
